New Years Drink Umbrellas

New Year’s Eve get-togethers can be more memorable with the addition of fun drink umbrellas. Any drink looks more appealing with a little umbrella, but now there are definite ways to kick it up a notch. You can use drink umbrellas as place cards for your guests. They are a whimsical way to set the tone for any New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day celebration. You could use a silver gel pen to write your guest names on the drink umbrellas and set one at each New Year’s Eve table place setting.

It would really to fun to make you own New Year’s Eve drink umbrellas. You could either get lightweight scrapbook paper that has Happy New Years printed on it or you could print out your own photos. Just cut the New Year’s Eve paper or photos into circles about three to five inches in diameter, depending on how large you want you drink umbrella, Now cut a small narrow triangle out of each circle, like cutting a piece of pie. Don’t cut past the center; wrap the ends to overlap and glue down. Now you New Year’s Eve umbrella can really be customized. Using a sharp craft knife score, a wooden kabob skewer and snap it in two pieces; for smaller umbrellas use whole toothpicks. Put a dot of glue on the end of the skewer or toothpick and insert it through the middle of the drink umbrella. Put a small dot of glue on the point that is poking through the top of the umbrella and slide a little bead onto it. Let it dry and you have a great little drink umbrella or place card. Use the gel pen to write New Year’s wishes and / or guest names. If you are having a pirate themed birthday party, the ideal piñata will be a treasure chest. Fill the treasure chest with items like candy and trinkets. Hang the treasure chest overhead and let the kids take turns trying to break it open.
