New Years Crayons

Crayons are versatile crafty items for your New Year’s Day celebration. The adults had their party of New Year’s Eve and now on New Year’s Day there is a football party planned. Why not plan a little party for the children in the family and the children of friends who will be watching the football game. It will keep the kids busy and give them something fun of their own to do. Start out by buying as many crayons as you can at the local dollar store. Then get a dozen or so coloring books. Cut pages out of the books so each child will have their own pages to color and take home. Let the parents know you plan a crayon party for the kids so they don’t show up in their best clothes.

Let the older kids have a special New Year’s Day craft session by having an adult shave small pieces off the crayons when each older child has a nice mound of shavings, put the shavings between two pieces of waxed paper. Now the New Year’s Day fun beginnings; have an adult use an iron to iron the pieces of waxed paper with the shavings. Put an old thin towel over and under the waxed paper to protect both the ironing surface and the iron. Put the iron on medium and you will end up with a stained glass looking piece of waxed paper where the crayons have melted. Now let the older and younger kids use the “stained glass” panel as the window in a greeting card made of card stock.
